Our customer is focused on reducing operating costs over the lives of its ships while maintaining combat readiness. We are growing our fleet support offerings and expanding our geographic reach to support our customer's needs. Our goal is to be the high quality, cost effective provider for Navy and commercial repair and fleet support.

Capabilities

Our portfolio of fleet service offerings includes both subsidiaries and in-house capabilities. Collectively, we maintain and overhaul a wide range of U.S. Navy nuclear and conventionally-powered ships including aircraft carriers, surface ships, and submarines as well as a variety of commercial ships. We also provide technical and life cycle logistics services.

Aircraft Carrier Fleet Services / Refueling and Complex Overhaul

Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Newport News is the only shipyard to perform overhaul and refueling work on Nimitz-class aircraft carriers, a three-year project that includes the refueling of both the ship's reactors, as well as significant modernization work.

Destroyer and Cruiser Modernization Program

The modernization program is a total ship upgrade program bringing advancements in class combat and Hull, Mechanical & Electrical Systems (HM&E).

Fleet Support

Since the early 1990's, Northrop Grumman Newport News has completed over 200 ship repair projects for the U.S. government, U.S.-flag commercial and foreign-flag commercial ships, ranging from paint repair to complete hull and machinery renovation.

Submarine Fleet Services

Newport News is the Navy's planning yard for the Los Angeles-class attack submarines and the Seawolf-class attack submarines.  This involves the design and on-site installation of state-of-the-art technology to keep the submarine fleet the most capable in the world.
