Habitat for Humanity builds simple and affordable houses in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter. The house will be located on 36th Street in Newport News, Va.
Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding-Newport News and the union are joining together to build the house, which is being called the "Labor Management House 7." It will be constructed by volunteer shipbuilders and will be completed in the spring.
“Thank you all for this opportunity to have my own home and to give my children everything they deserve, thank you so much,” said homeowner Mellakecha Thompson.
“We are proud of our involvement in Habitat,” said Ken Mahler, vice president of Navy Programs for Northrop Grumman’s Shipbuilding, Newport News. “It’s an opportunity to do well for our community and we’re excited for the Thompson family and look forward to building their new home.”
