Quality Rock Tour
|
The Newport News Huntington Memorial “Rock” was taken on a 10-stop tour of the shipyard in October while it was moved from Bldg. 520, outside the shipyard gates, to Bldg. 86, inside the gates and where it originally made its debut in 1917. "The Rock" memorializes shipyard founder Collis P. Huntington, whose comments about quality inspired an inscription on the Rock, which reads: "We shall build good ships here. At a profit, if we can. At a loss, if we must. But always good ships."
Over the two weeks of the tour, more than 15,000 shipbuilders on all shifts attended and heard a message on first-time quality from Vice President and General Manager Matt Mulherin. Click here to read his message. View Video
